I agree, if the Jets find themselves 2-5 and Favre has too many picks he can expect a hammering in the press like he wouldn't believe. However, if conversely the Jets finish with a winning record or can make any kind of shot at postseason, Favre will probably get all the plaudits, despite the massive overhaul of the team offseason.

I like Brett Favre and respect his decision to continue playing with the hapless Jets. However, Brett Favre has no idea what he has gotten himself into. The New York media is NOTHING like the Green Bay media which treated him like a legend and icon for many years. A few bad games (and there will be many of those) the media will be in his grill and poor Brett will quickly question WHY he came out of retirement. Good luck Brett!

I'd have to go with Game Six again the Boston Red Sox. I know there were a lot of events held at Shea over the years but first and foremost Shea a baseball stadium built for the Mets. With that said I have to pick a Mets highlight and what could be more memorable then 1986 Game 6???

He beaned two batters and then missed the dugout from point blank - I think whether or not he should play in the majors is missing the point, it looked like single-A was too much for him. In fact, he's only been in the States for a month, I imagine he'll be heading home pretty soon!

I think people are overreacting here. Yes, it was a monumentally stupid thing to do, but he's only 21, do we really want his career ended over this? It could have been tragic, but he will face his punishment in the courts, and he will obviously face a lengthy time outside baseball (in America anyway). I personally think that will be punishment enough.

Agreed. Throw the book at him. There is no place in baseball for what he did and MLB should ban him from ever playing in the majors (when he get's out of jail).

Maybe they could let him go while they're over the Pacific... without a parachute? I don't know why Minaya is trying to follow a squad strategy that failed for the Yankees of buying ageing players on massive contracts. Even when we have good young prospects such as Pelfrey or Milledge, the coaching staff appear to have no idea how to blood them properly. John Maine coming through now seems like a happy accident rather than good management. Let's be honest, the Mets have been on slide for a season and a half now, and not Randolph, Minaya or anyone else seemed to have a clue how to stop it. Give it to the all-star break, and if fortunes haven't improved, if I was Manuel I'd weed out the deadwood that won't be there in 2009, such as Delgado, Alou and probably (although I hate to say it) Martinez, and promote some prospects with a view to next season.

I believe everyone agrees the Mets are playing below their potential. You can't fire an entire team so Willie must go. He did deservse some dignity as to how he got fired.

I think the Mets should wait until they play a game overseas. Perhaps when they play in Japan, they should make Omar take the flight and then fire him when he lands.
